September 24: Tottenham Hotspur’s disastrous start to the 2026/27 season will hit the bank balance with news that South Korean furniture company Sidiz will activate an early exit clause in their sponsorship deal.
According to The Telegraph, Sidiz has activated an exit clause, with the partnership officially ending at the end of October. The deal was understood to run until 2028 and be worth “millions of pounds”, although Sidiz was seen as a lower-level sponsor alongside Spurs’ main partners.
Sidiz provides the seats in Tottenham’s training ground and the stadium’s press room, meaning manager Roberto De Zerbi is about to lose the fancy chairs, literally sitting less comfortably as the pressure builds.
Since the end of October, all of Sidiz’s marks have gone, including the backdrop from which the former Brighton boss has led his press conferences.
Tottenham simply can’t seem to catch a break as their continued descent seems to be continuing at a remarkable pace. De Zerbi’s side sit bottom of the English Premier League (EPL) at the international break without a win in their first five games, and have now also lost a sponsor.
ENIC, the club’s ownership, poured serious money into a summer rebuild, with big bids for Sandro Tonali, Savio and Mateus Fernandes as Spurs try to avoid another relegation fight.
Part of the funding for this window came through eight new sponsorship deals for 2026/27. One of them, Sidiz, now finishes early.
A small thing in the grand scheme. But when you’re bottom of the league and even the furniture company is heading for the exit, you start to wonder if the football gods might have it in for you.
