Spin is not just a number. A wedge produces it in different situations and the best ones provide it in many ways. There’s the full swing, where you try to hit the green from 90-plus yards. There is the 50-yard shot, where you try to control how far the ball goes. And there is the wet shot, with dew on the fairway or wet rough around the green.
Some wedges are great in all three situations and others struggle. Our spin point in our 2026 Test Wedge Most Wanted combines four measurements: full-swing spin, 50-yard dry spin, 50-yard wet spin and how much spin a wedge maintains when moisture is added.
As we have tried
We tested 15 wedges, all 56 degrees in loft, in 240 hours and 11,400 shots. Each shot was hit with a Titleist Pro V1 on a Foresight GC Quad at our indoor facility in Yorktown, Va., in three conditions: full swing, 50 yards dry and 50 yards wet. Spin makes up 30 percent of a wedge’s overall MGS Score.

What the results of the back tell us
Dry back hardly separates anything. Through all 15 wedges, 50-yard dry spin ran from 6,729 to 7,217 rpm, a spread of 488-rpm. Add water and gap increases to more than 3,700 rpm. If you are picking a wedge out of a dry number, you are looking for the part of the test that tells you the least.
The full-swing spin does not separate much. The top five finished within about 370 rpm of each other, 9,057 to 9,429.
Moisture retention explains most of this list. Four of the five wedges here finished in the top six for wet spin retention. The exception is the New Level SPN V3 which had the highest dry spin of the group (7,062 rpm) but kept only 83 percent of it in the wet. He made the list on the strength of his overall spin numbers which shows why we scored spin in all four measures and not just one.

Peak spin is not the goal
U Performance Golf ONE.1 it led the test in full-swing spin (9,865 rpm) and dry 50-yard spin (7,217 rpm) but fell to 3,506 rpm when wet and ranked near the bottom in overall spin performance. The wedge that spins the most on a clean, dry putt isn’t always the one that holds the green when conditions change.
