Last year, John Cena officially retired from in-ring competition. next year, Adam “Edge” Copeland will do the same. Meanwhile, their former partner Nick Nemeth shows no signs of slowing down. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from wondering what his future path to retirement might look like.
“I’d like to do something good,” Nemeth continued “Lost Open Radio”. “I’d like to do my last show in Los Angeles, my last show in Cleveland, my last title fight, all these different things and go, ‘This is my last.’ We all wish we had last year’s run. I don’t know how that works. I know that can work for some people, and a lot of people in our business can’t call the shots. But when you do and you mean something, I hope we see more and more of that because I know we like it.”
Nemeth, a former collegiate wrestler, began his professional wrestling career under the WWE banner in 2004. At the time, Cena and Copeland were steadily establishing themselves as major stars on the WWE main roster. Other names such as The Miz, Mickie James, and Nemeth himself worked in WWE’s developmental system.
Ultimately, Nemeth hopes that all ringers of his generation, now veterans of the business, will get a moment of recognition before they say goodbye. In his case, The Showoff seems further away from him.
“I love when somebody who’s done so much, or somebody that I’ve been in the ring with, makes everybody give their moment and enjoy what they’ve done and the sacrifices they’ve made,” Nemeth said. “I love that stuff.”
Nemeth is currently signed to TNA where he reigns as one half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions. He lost the TNA World Championship to Leon Slater on October 11 at Bound For Glory.
