Nadia Podoroska beat No. 2 Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday night to reach the SP Open final, the Argentine’s first career WTA singles final at the age of 29 and ranked 449th.
Podoroska had lost in her previous four WTA semifinals and had not reached one since Ningbo 2023, missing most of the 2025 season through injury before returning to the tour in March. In Sao Paulo, she beat Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini 6-3, 6-4, Germany’s 5th seed Eva Liss 7-5, 6-2 and Holland’s Suzanne Lamens 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3.
She will face No. 7 Caitlin Quevedo of Spain, who defeated No. 4 Anna Blinkova of France 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 earlier in the evening.
Queedo, ranked 107th and making her first round semi-final at the age of 20, also reached her first career final with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Russian top seed Anastasia Tikhonova, Brazil’s Nauhani Vitoria Leme Da Silva and Serbovic 6-431.
The 87th-ranked Badosa defeated lucky loser Justina Mikulskite of Lithuania 6-3, 6-2, Yazmin Ortenzi of Argentina 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Mary Stoyana of the United States 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last four.
