Medvedev, the No. 3 seed, arrives on a seven-match winning streak after winning the title in Almaty last Sunday. He leads the tour with 41 wins on hard court this season, reaches his fifth semifinal in as many weeks and has won 18 of his 19 matches since late September.
By reaching the last four, the 2022 Vienna champion also secured his place at the Nitto ATP Finals, his seventh qualification in eight years.
Alcaraz brings an undefeated record of his own. He has now won 24 straight matches at the ATP 500 level, a streak that stretches back to last year’s Barcelona final, and is 14-0 at that level this season. He is 31-4 on hard courts in 2026.
I played great tennis, probably without as much confidence as yesterday
Against Paul he was more pleased than dazzling. “I think I played great tennis, probably without as much confidence as I did yesterday, for example when it came to hitting from the back of the court,” he said. “But overall, I’m very happy with the battle, that I was able to find my way through the match and ultimately secure the win in two sets.”
He enjoyed the show too. “I think everyone was able to see our scores today. There were great rallies, great scores and spectacular hitting by both of us. I’m very happy, I really enjoy this kind of game. I’m a big Tommy fan, honestly. I love his style, the way he plays and I really enjoy watching him play. So it was a pleasure for me, like today, it was a pleasure to meet him face to face. And, obviously, I’m very happy with my performance.”
The win gives Alcaraz an 8-2 lead against Paul. Takes him to his 50th career semi-final and his second in Vienna since 2021. Earlier in the week, he beat Russia’s Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-1, 7-6 (11).
