The win moved his record to 35-5 this season. His titles were won in 2026 at the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo. The win extended his unbeaten streak at the ATP 500 level, which began in Barcelona in 2025.
He will face either Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur in the other semi-final. Alcaraz did damage in each set early, then held strong when Medvedev broke back.
“I’ve been working really hard in all aspects of my game to try to be in good shape for this tournament, to try to give myself another chance to go far in the tournament,” Alcaraz said after the match.
“I’m really, really happy to be able to play another final, the first one here in Vienna, and I’ll try to make the most of the time to be in good shape, to recover well, physically and mentally properly (ready) for tomorrow.” It’s been a great week and I’m looking forward to playing tomorrow.”
Two breaks, one tie-break
Alcaraz opened the match to love and broke Medvedev to take a 3-1 lead. The Russian was pushed back with a score of 3-2. The games were then on serve until the 10th game when Alcaraz broke again. He converted his first set point and grabbed the opener on 36 minutes.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Alcaraz saved a break point to hold for 2-2, then took a 4-2 lead. Medvedev immediately broke back 4-3 and the set went to a tiebreak. Alcaraz won it 7-2, converting his first match point after a 61-minute second set.
The Spaniard won 28 to Medvedev’s 15, with 26 unforced errors to the Russian’s 18. In other words, he took more risks and the winners covered the mistakes.
The defeat of Indian Wells changed
Alcaraz now leads Medvedev 6-3. The Russian defeated him 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the Indian Wells semifinals in March. Before that, Alcaraz had won their previous four matches. These included the 2024 Wimbledon semifinals, which he won 6–7 (1), 6–3, 6–4, 6–4.

Alcaraz opens next week at the Paris Masters 1000 against either Alex Michelsen or Jiri Leheca.
