Takomo’s new Ignis D2 driver delivers simplicity and affordability

How Takomo Begins transition from just one iron company who could build a whole bag, make it easier to find a driver.

The Finnish consumer-facing brand introduces its second driver, the Ignis D2, which gives players a higher launch and a more forgiving option off the tee compared to the previous D1.

At just $329, just over half the price of some major OEMs, Takomo’s driver occupies a price point rarely seen anymore. in the current market.

Continue reading below for more on the Takomo Ignis D2 driver.

What’s really new with the Takomo Ignis D2 driver – and why you should care

With the D2, Takomo aimed for simplicity by offering a 460cc driver with a single adjustable rear weight. The default configuration includes a 2-gram rear weight, but there is also an 8-gram option to increase the swing weight depending on the build.

Takomo product manager Teemu Laine wrote in a technical briefing that removing the toe and heel weights from the D1 allowed Takomo to push the mass further towards the perimeter of the head, increasing MOI and pushing the CG deeper for a higher launch. The optional 8g shoulder weight pushes the CG even lower to increase the launch further.

While the driver only has one weight port, there are still adjustability options. The D2 has been designed to offer a neutral face angle without head weight induced draft bias. However, an eight-position hosel sleeve allows customization of face angle, loft and lie angle. The standard lie angle, Laine said, was straighter than other drivers, giving the driver a touch of bias.

The lie angle can be made 1˚ more vertically by means of a hosel adjustment.

The D2 also changes materials to HST160C titanium alloy, a material commonly used for metal woods.

“The material change allows for thinner body walls and a thinner face, while maintaining the structural strength and flexible characteristics required by the design,” Laine wrote. “The alloy’s ability to elastically deform and return to its original shape supports a spring response.”

Instead of combining separate face and body pieces, the D2 is actually cast together as one piece, meaning there is no face insert or spot weld.

The face itself also has a variable thickness profile with more material in the center of the face, a thinner area around the face and then four thinner areas in the corners of the face. This was done to ensure ball speed on off-center shots.
