Ireland international Sean Jansen has extended his stay in the Connacht after the end of this season after signing a new two-year contract, which will last at least until 2029.
The No.8’s current contract was set to expire next summer, but Western Province were quick to secure the services of last season’s Player of the Year.
Jansen signed from Leicester in 2023 and has become a fan favorite at the Dexcom Stadium for his ability to carry the ball and try to score goals.
Last season he scored 12 tries in 20 appearances and made a huge contribution in defence, coming third in the URC ranking for matches scored (219).
He made his international debut against Ireland Japan and was named man of the match after scoring a try, earning him a place in the 23rd game against New Zealand a week later.
“I have loved every moment of my 3 years here in Ireland, and I want to thank all my teammates, staff and especially the fans for making me feel so welcome,” said Jansen.
“It’s obvious from the way we finished last season that there’s something special going on here. We’re a tight-knit group that comes to training every day to push ourselves and help achieve the success I know we’re capable of.”
“We’re also fortunate to be working with such a talented group of coaches led by Stu. All I want to do now is continue to play and contribute wherever I can, and bring silverware to the West.”
Head coach Stuart Lancaster added: “Securing Shaun’s future is a massive boost for everyone at Connacht. He played a huge part in our run to the play-offs and the Rugby Champions Cup last season, culminating in that well-deserved international debut in the summer.
“He’s only 27 so his best years are still ahead of him and for him to commit to Connacht until at least 2029 is a statement of intent from both Sean and the club.”
