September 11: Hawk-Eye Innovations has reached a multi-year agreement with the Football Association of Singapore to implement a comprehensive suite of centralized video assistant (VAR) services in the Singapore Premier League.
The package includes Hawk-Eye’s VARdict system and goal line cameras. It covers the SPL’s four facilities, each with a referee review area and monitors, feeding into a central VAR replay center staffed by IFAB-approved operators and Hawk-Eye specialists.
The technology itself is the same used at the top of the world game. Powered by Hawk-Eye’s synchronized multi-angle playback technology, it allows officials to control all camera angles and review key moments in real time. Two dedicated goal-line cameras on each floor transmit high-frame-rate footage, giving officials super-slow-motion views of penalty-line and goal-line incidents that standard broadcast cameras might miss.
There is also a fan-oriented element. VARdict sends real-time decision updates simultaneously to stadium, TV and digital screens, so everyone gets the same information at the same time.
Hawk-Eye’s Global Football Commercial Director Peter Irwin said: “By integrating our VAR infrastructure, VARdict solution and goal-line cameras into a single, centralized workflow, we provide match officials in Singapore with the exact tools used at the highest levels of global football.”
FAS general secretary Badri Ghent called it “an important step for Singapore football”, noting the transparency VARdict brings to fans “in the stadium and at home”. He said the introduction of VAR was part of a wider push to raise professional standards in the league, and thanked Sony Singapore for enabling the deal.
