21 October: UEFA has received a record number of seven national federations who have declared an interest in EURO 2030 futsal.
Croatia, Finland, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Poland and Spain have each submitted a declaration of interest for the final tournament.
The 2030 final will be the 14thth edition of the Futsal Euro. Of the candidate nations Croatia and Spain (twice) have previously hosted the futsal EURO, the remaining five associations will be hosting it for the first time.
Croatia hosted the futsal EURO in 2012, which was also held in Zagreb and Split. Croatia holds the single-match attendance record in the history of the Championship: 14,300 spectators attended the semi-final between Croatia and Russia at Arena Zagreb.
In terms of performance, Spain have won eight of the 13 editions of the final and Portugal have won two. Futsal EURO 2026, held in Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia, saw Spain beat Portugal in the final.
UEFA said the 2026 event saw “strong attendances, together with record participation on digital and social platforms, reflecting the growing reach of the competition and the continued development of futsal across Europe”.
Futsal has shown an upward trajectory in Europe since the first European Championship was held in Spain in 1996 and only had six teams. The tournament was expanded to eight teams in 1999 and held every two years, and to 12 teams in 2010.
After 2018, the tournament was expanded to 16 teams and held every four years. The first 16-team tournament was held in 2022 in the Netherlands.
UEFA launched the bidding process on 29 June, with national associations invited to submit their declarations of interest by 13 October. Final bid dossiers must be submitted by 8 June 2027, with UEFA’s Executive Committee expected to appoint the host association in September 2027.
