Sami Zayn remains the Undisputed WWE Champion with a victory over Kevin Owens thanks to multiple interferences. The main event of “WWE SmackDown”. Not only did Zayn thank Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRay, but CM Punk as well.
This was the first time outside of WWE NXT that Zayn and Owens faced off for the top title. Owens immediately took it to Zayn to start the match and kicked him out of the ring. Owens almost cut the champion over the barricade in the arms of the fans.
Zayn tried to fight back with a DDT in the ring. He made it to the top turnbuckle but Owens got to his feet and the pair traded blows and Zayn rolled Owens’ eyes. Zayn jumped over his opponent but walked into a supercar.
Owens hit Zayn with two running kicks and a cannonball in the corner. He paid tribute to John Cena with the Attitude Adjustment, but Zayn kicked out. Zayn dodged a pop-up powerbomb and then hit a Blue Thunder Bomb. The pair met once again on the top turnbuckle and Owens hit Zayn with a swan.
Gargano ran in to distract the referee. LeRae hit Owens with a tornado DDT which allowed Zayn to hit the Helluva Kick. After Owens kicked out, he looked for a second, but Owens hit a powerbomb and then a stunner. Gargano put Zayn’s foot on the bottom rope. Owens attacked Gargano, then sent Zayn through the commentary table and brought him back into the ring.
While the referee was distracted from Lera, Punk came out and gave Owens the title shot. Zayn took out the former champion and crawled over to Owens for a cover. Owens didn’t escape in time, but the referee looked confused at the count. Zayn hit Owens with another Helluva Kick for the win. After the match, Punk hit both men with a GTS to end the show.
