Sam Underhill faces an anxious wait for an update on the bicep injury sustained in Bath’s 33-17 win over Gallagher Prem Harlequins this jeopardizes his participation in the English autumn.
Underhill lasted 48 minutes in the season opener at The Stoop and could face the prospect of missing more Tests after missing the England tour in July with shoulder surgery.
Steve Borthwick’s men face off Australia Nov. 8 in the first of four Nations Championship games in November.
Bath Head of rugby Johann van Graan said: “It looks like a biceps injury. Obviously Sam will need a scan.
“As we know, if the biceps are gone, it’s a few months. Hopefully we’ll have some mercy there, but I guess we’ll know more next week.”
Santi Carreras’ moment of magic against Harlequins was hailed by Van Graan as Bath’s try of the season – even though it was taken on the opening night of the 2026-27 Prem.
The Argentina star prevented the hosts from making a sure try by kicking forward for a goal intended for Cadan Murley, collected the ball and then finished with a run that started just outside his own 22.
It was a unique try and Graan said: “What a player, what a moment. I would certainly say from the point of view of trying to score, it was quite a moment in the game.”
“I was asked during the week how Santi was and I said he did some things in training last week where we were all like ‘where did this come from!? That’s amazing!’. So I smiled when he did that.
“In my opinion, that’s going to be the try of the season for us in the first round. The decision to use the foot first and then the skill level to actually try to pick it up and not put it down, put it on the byline, keep the head and then finish it.
“We have some great players at our club and he is certainly one of them.”
Quins were missing England stars Marcus Smith (hand), George Furbank (concussion), Fin Baxter (foot) and Alex Dombrandt (knee).
Smith could be back as early as Saturday’s trip Gloucester with Furbank expected in time for the Kingsholm showdown, while Baxter is three or four weeks away from a return. Dombrandt is a longer-term injury.
Quins boss Jason Gilmore was pleased with the lively start to the Prem. He said: “I’m really pleased with the desire and fight they showed, especially in the second half.
“We had some massive defensive sets at the goal line, which we withstood.
“I’m frustrated we made a lot of line breaks but we panicked a bit at the end and turned the ball over too much which set Bath free.”
