It’s been a month of tragedy in pro wrestling, and last week the business was dealt another blow when. Referee Geraldo Pineda, aka El Buho, died after driving Luchador El Hijo de Fishman.. The second-generation wrestler was later arrested and faced manslaughter charges, but will get away with it thanks to a settlement with Pineda’s family. Speaking to X on Friday and Saturday, reporter Antonio Nieto confirmed that Fishman agreed to pay $585,525 pesos to Pineda’s family, with the money being split mostly among Pineda’s five children.
The agreement between the two parties was crucial to Fishman’s continued freedom, as Nieto noted that if even one of Pineda’s five children did not agree to the terms, it would be overturned and Hijo de Fishman would face criminal charges and possibly even prison time. So far, neither Fishman nor Pineda’s children have made a public statement about the situation. It is unclear how quickly the agreement was reached or whether the money was used for Pineda’s funeral, which took place shortly after his death.

Many other questions remain unanswered regarding the spot that led to Pineda’s death, which occurred after a free-for-all match between Hijo de Fishman and Mascara Sagrada NG. This includes whether the stack was planned by Hijo de Fishman and Pineda planned ahead of time or improvised, and whether Pineda agreed on the spot or did so reluctantly.
While video of the pileup has yet to emerge, other highlights from the game showed Hijo de Fishman body slamming into Pineda minutes earlier. The younger Fishman and Sagrada are known to include officials their long-standing enmityitself a nod to the rivalry between their fathers, Fishman and Mascara Sagrada, throughout their long careers.
