The Republic of Ireland drew 1-1 with Israel in Serbia after Troy Parrott’s penalty was canceled out by a Daniel Peretz goal early in the second half.

Played in Serbia due to safety concerns, Ireland will have been frustrated not to take the three points after a particularly dominant first half, with Israel improving after the break and missing several chances of their own to claim victory.

Parrott scores again

The Republic of Ireland had made a strong start despite the soft atmosphere in Serbia, with Adam Idah forcing a save from Assaf Tzur before Parrott’s effort went wide.

Israel had enjoyed a period of pressure of their own, with Caoimhin Kelleher denying Liel Abada before Ireland gradually regained control.

Jayson Molumby had gone close with a powerful effort from the edge of the box, while Ireland had also threatened with set pieces and long throws.

Ireland had been awarded a penalty in the 39th minute after Dor Peretz fouled Jimmy Dunne following Parrott’s initial effort, and Parrott made no mistake from the spot.

Israel had offered little in response before the break, leaving Ireland at half-time with a deserved 1-0 lead.

Israel catch point

But the Irish suffered a disastrous start to the second half as Peretz leveled the game with Israel’s first shot on target, reacting quicker after Oscar Gloukh’s shot deflected off Liam Scales.

Idah then saw a chance to claim Ireland before Gloukh had another warning shot with a low drive which was smothered by Kelleher.

Chiedozie Ogbene had made an immediate impact, forcing Assaf Tzur into a fine save with a fierce diving header, while Jake O’Brien also had a header blocked from a corner.

Israel had come close to taking the lead late on, Omri Gandleman’s low effort and Oscar Gloukh’s volley clipping the outside of the post as the game entered an increasingly frantic final 10 minutes.
