The American Hockey League joins in remembering all the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001.
Los Angeles Kings scouts and AHL alumni were among the 2,977 lives lost in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pa. Ace Bailey and: Mark Bevis. The two were on United Flight 175 from Boston, en route to the Kings’ training camp.
The AHL and its member clubs dedicated the 2001–02 season to raising funds to support the victims of that day and their families through events such as jersey auctions, boat rides with local police and firefighters, special player appearances and sales of designated merchandise.
Additionally, the league has proudly supported Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation and: Mark Bevis Leadership Foundationwhich were created to preserve the memory of the love of their life, their love of family and their love of hockey.
The work of the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation focused on the well-being of children undergoing medical treatment by creating and improving programs, environments, and professional services at Tufts-New England Medical Center Children’s Floating Hospital in Boston.
The Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation continues to perpetuate the principles that Bavis lived by every day and through which he touched the lives of so many. The foundation provides annual grants to selected young men and women to be used for school tuition, summer programs and other appropriate extracurricular activities.
