Relevent goes full service with launch of broadcast production addition to rights sales arm

October 21: Relevent has launched Relevent Media Services, a broadcast and production division led by two former senior executives of Host Broadcast Services.

Dan Miodownik becomes president and chief executive officer of Luc-Antoine Charial. Both left HBS, the production company owned by Infront, at the end of September, in April.

Miodownik had been HBS’s chief executive since 2018, with Charial’s chief operating officer for the same period. Between them they oversaw the production of the FIFA World Cup, the Rugby World Cup, the French and US Opens and the World Championships in Athletics. Miodownik joined HBS in 2004 following senior roles at Sky Sports, ITV Sport and Team Marketing. Charial was there since 2000.

The new unit will offer end-to-end broadcast production, project management, cross-platform content and technology integration. The goal is for Relevent to offer the full range of multimedia services to the properties it represents.

“By bringing broadcast production in-house, with two incredibly experienced and respected leaders in Dan and Luc-Antoine at the helm, we can now shape how a competition looks, feels and reaches fans, from the moment the rights are sold to the final whistle,” said Boris Gartner, chief executive of Relevent.

Charial said: “I am delighted to be joining Relevent and look forward to developing their new production group, while supporting their customers and welcoming new partners from football and beyond.”

The timing follows last week’s announcement that Relevent will sell UEFA national team competitions from 2028 to 2036, replacing CAA Eleven. It already has UEFA club competition rights from 2027 to 2028. It also has a 20-year joint venture with LaLiga covering North and Central America, and works with the Bundesliga and the English Football League.

The addition of production will give Relevent control over a greater part of the value chain as it moves to challenge the world’s largest sports rights and production agencies like IMG. Rights sellers have traditionally outsourced production to specialist companies. Relevent now wants to sell the rights, shape the broadcast product and create the content around it.
