Sunderland Manager Regis Le Bris hailed a “very special” night for the club after the Black Cats continued their return to European football with a dramatic late win.
Sunderland left it until the closing stages to secure all three points, sparking wild celebrations from their traveling supporters.
Le Bris praised his young side for showing the belief to keep pushing until the final whistle, insisting the experience would be valuable as they continue to develop.
“We are back in Europe after 53 years and to win this game right at the end is very special,” Le Bris said.
“It’s a symbol, and important, I think for many reasons, the first is for our club and our fans, they were fantastic again.
“We’re also growing and we need experiences, and I think the team showed that belief until the end. It’s important for us to show that mentality.”
The Sunderland manager also highlighted the youth of his squad, revealing that the average age of his starting XI was just over 22.
“Absolutely. The starting eleven had 22 points tonight, which shows that this team is young with great potential, but the potential is about gaining experience to learn and grow.
“Sometimes it’s hard, you have to wait. Showing consistency and discipline.”
Le Bris also reserved praise for Noah Sadiki, who got on the scoresheet during the contest.
The midfielder’s attacking contribution particularly pleased his manager, who believes he has the qualities to become an even bigger threat in the final third.
“It’s important for him to step up and add that layer to his game because he has the ability to pound the box, to dribble, to scream for key passes.
“Now it’s the next layer, so hopefully it’s a starting point.”
