The Boston Red Sox authored one of the best turnaround stories in baseball, and their reward is the most storied rivalry in the sport. As late as June 21st, Boston’s playoff probability had cratered to just 8.4%, and the season looked lost. Then everything changed. The Red Sox reeled off a 15-game winning streak in July that flipped their entire year and carried them all the way to the second wild card spot. Now they open the postseason against the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card Series, with Game 1 on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. It is the second October in a row these two rivals have met in the wild card round. Boston catches one break, as the Yankees will be without star slugger Aaron Judge, who is sidelined with a calf injury and left off the wild card roster. Still, @Kalshi’s Game 1 market favors New York at 55%, largely on the strength of American League Cy Young candidate Cam Schlittler taking the mound. From 8.4% to the Bronx in October, the Red Sox have nothing to lose.
Odds referenced from @Kalshi’s Red Sox vs Yankees Game 1 market this week. Can the Red Sox pull off the upset now that they’ve already beaten the odds all season, or do the Yankees and Cam Schlittler shut them down? And how much does the absence of Aaron Judge actually swing this series? Drop your prediction and your biggest disagreement in the comments. Let’s see whether Red Sox Nation or the Bronx faithful is more confident tonight.
