On September 4th, WWE released a number of performers its development systemsThe likes of Anya Rooney, Adriana Rizzo and Jasper Troy were let go from the company. However, according to a recent publication by Dave Meltzer Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The single issue was seen as a major shock within WWE.
The release in question was none other than Wendy Chuformer WWE EVOLVE Women’s Champion who was released after more than seven years with the company. Meltzer explained that the length of her WWE tenure meant that her release caught many by surprise, especially considering that before she officially signed with WWE in February 2019, she had competed in the original Mae Young Classic tournament in 2018. at the end of June, although the meeting was recorded at the end of May.
With all that said, Meltzer went on to explain why Chu’s release really shouldn’t have been all that shocking. Regarding his recent title reign in EVOLVE, Meltzer stated that the EVOLVE titles meant “less than anything in WWE” so his recently being a champion didn’t carry much weight in terms of his status in the company.
Since Chu has been with WWE for so long, Meltzer believes that this actually makes it more likely that he will be released since he has been in WWE’s developmental systems for over seven years and has not been on the main roster, assuming he will never be brought up. If he was called up to “WWE Raw” or “WWE SmackDown”, Meltzer claimed that Chu wouldn’t make it because his sleeper gimmicks were “lame” and his other gimmicks weren’t good enough for the main roster. Meltzer concluded by noting that the three major injuries he has also held him back from making a real statement in WWE.
