Portugal they got their place in the UEFA Nations League quarter finals as they came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 and maintain their 100 percent start under Jorge Jesus.
The defenders fell behind with a stunning effort from Kristoffer Ajer in the 36th minute, only for Joao Cancelo to restore parity with a low strike.
With the second half more subdued, the game seemed to be winding its way towards a draw which would also have been enough for Portugal to progress thanks to Denmark’s win over Wales.
But Ramos ensured Portugal’s perfect record under Jesus was preserved in a dramatic and contentious finish.
Ramos scored his third goal in as many games amid the saga surrounding Portugal’s record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from camp, heading home after some excellent build-up play from Vitinha and Joao Felix.
However, there was more drama to follow after both sides received penalty claims. A Norway substitute was shown a red card for his part in his protests, before Portugal’s Francisco Conceicao picked up two consecutive yellows four minutes from time for dissent after he was rightly denied a free-kick for a tackle on Leo Ostigard.
However, Norway were unable to capitalize on their brief spell with an extra man as they slumped to a third straight defeat, leaving them with plenty of work to do in the upcoming international break to join Portugal in the last 16.
