Alex Pereira doesn’t think Ciryl Gane’s heavyweight title fight with Josh Hokit should be headlined UFC 334 in Madison Square Garden in November, leaving “Poatan” to promote the fight himself.
In case you missed it, Gane vs. Hockey booked main event UFC returns to New York City on November 14. This was after Tom Aspinall relinquished the heavyweight title. The promotion eventually elevated Gane to Undisputed Champion and set up his first title defense against Hokit. Some believe the controversial Hokit didn’t deserve UFC gold, but that didn’t stop UFC officials from booking the heavyweight clash.
Pereira, who is scheduled to face heavyweight contender Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335 this December, was hoping for another shot at the heavyweight title after defeating Gane at UFC White House last June. “Poatan” has been very vocal about Gane throwing illegal punches to the back of the head to end the fight, so it’s safe to say he’s still bitter about the loss. Pereira also has a history with Hokit after the trash-talking heavyweight pushed him backstage earlier this year ( watch this HERE).
On Friday, Pereira took to social media to throw shade at the upcoming Gane vs. Hokit matchup, suggesting that the UFC should have made Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes the UFC 334 main event. Check it out below:
“Why isn’t the women’s fight the main event?” asked Pereira. “Okay, let me help promote it because no one is paying attention.”
