Pacific Notes: Green, Lendeborg, Simmons, Bridges, Lakers

After signing an annual contract with Warriors in free agency this summer, Draymond Green will become an unrestricted free agent again in the 2027 offseason. The veteran forward/center, who has played for Golden State since entering the NBA in 2012, remains hopeful that he can finish his playing career with the Warriors, but he said CNBC’s Alex Sherman that he wants to play after this season, regardless of whether he stays in the Bay Area.

“I would like to retire from the Golden State Warriors, but I don’t either Steph Curryright? So I don’t have the luxury of Steph Curry, and that’s okay.” Green said, hinting that the Warriors are willing to sign Curry for as many years and dollars as they can legally offer this offseason. “It’s so rare to be with the same team your whole career. And if I can accomplish that feat, I’d love to do it.

“… I’d like to play basketball next year … if it doesn’t happen, I’m not going to retire.”

Even after the expansion of Curry and Brandin underground last month, the Warriors are slated to have a significant salary cap hit next July, so the front office can take a few different directions with their roster. Green told Sherman he won’t harbor any “hard feelings” toward the Warriors if they determine he’s not part of the future plans.

“I’m very grateful for the journey I’ve taken to get here.” he said.

Here’s more from the Pacific region:

  • Rookie forward Yaksel Landeborg was exceeded Mike Dunleavy Jr‘s expectations so far Warriors the general manager said during an appearance on Tim Kawakami’s “TK Show” podcast (Spotify link). Dunleavy said he felt Golden State was “lucky” to land a player like Lendeborg, who was selected with the 11th overall pick in this year’s draft, and said the former Michigan star was “better in some areas” than the team expected. “I think we were more impressed with his passing ability, making all the right plays, just his simple passing.” Dunleavy said, trans Dan Dempster of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s the type of player we’ve been looking for ever since (Second) Iguodala and (Andrew) Wigginsand guys love it. Guys who have positional size on the perimeter who can shoot, pass and dribble are just so unique. “
  • Ben Simmons expected to stick around The necklaces while rehabilitating an Achilles tear, according to Mark J. Andscape’s Spears, who said during an appearance on ESPN Today on Monday that Simmons is getting support from the entire organization following the season-ending injury (Link to video on Twitter). Spears adds that he considers him a great coach Doug Christie was on the verge of appointing Simmons as team captain if not for the Achilles injury.
  • So far, it doesn’t look like a contract extension between the forwards Miles Bridges and The sun inevitably, John Gambadora of Arizona Sports 98.7 (Link to Twitter) says the team remains fully committed to keeping Bridges off the free agent market in 2027, suggesting the two sides are likely to reach a deal at some point during the season.
  • Lakers security guard Colin Sexton (shin strain) was a full participant in Monday’s practice, a Cameron Carr and Goodbye Thiero were partial participants without taking part in the fighting, according to Jovan Buha (Link to Twitter). The team said Carr is dealing with a “contusion” and cited “maintenance” for Tierro, so it doesn’t appear either player is dealing with a significant health issue.
