What’s at stake for Nottingham Forest and Arsenal?
Arsenal will be looking to move within three points of Premier League leaders Manchester City when they visit Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
The Gunners overcame Leeds last weekend and moved past Lille in the Champions League in midweek.
Forest’s start under Oliver Glasner has been a struggle. They are 15th with five points in six games. Glasner has now won just five of his last 29 top-flight games since December last year, when he was still in charge of Crystal Palace.
Last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat on their return to Selhurst Park summed up their season. Forest had 24 shots and amassed 3.36 Goals Expected, but Dan Ndoye’s opener was all they had to show for it. No team in the Premier League has done more against their expected goals this season and Forest have failed to score in three of their six league games.
However, the underlying numbers suggest they have been unlucky. Forest’s expected points total is third in the Premier League, behind only Arsenal and Manchester City, and only Arsenal have conceded fewer expected goals.
Arteta will also be wary of the City Ground. The last two league meetings here ended goalless, despite 40 shots between the teams. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Forest, winning three of them.
