City of Coventry recorded their first Premier League win in 25 years after a 1-0 win Nottingham Forest on city land.

Jay Dasilva scored the only goal of the game shortly after the break to give Frank Lampard’s men a famous victory to lift them off the foot of the table and into 18th.

Forest, who had a late goal disallowed, sit 12th after suffering their second League defeat of the campaign.

Nothing to separate the two sides

Coventry went into the game having yet to find the back of the net since their return to the Premier League. That showed little sign of changing in the opening moments, with Jack Rudoni firing high over the bar.

Frank Lampard’s side had another sight of goal minutes later when Brandon Thomas-Asante’s first-time effort from the edge of the box was saved by Matz Sels.

At the other end, Neco Williams fired a shot from distance but it went straight to Carl Rushworth in the Coventry goal.

A 25-year wait is coming to an end

Nothing could separate the two sides at the break in what was proving to be a tricky affair at the City Ground.

However, just 10 minutes after the restart, history was made. From a long ball over the top, Dasilva got behind Daniel Muñoz before lifting the ball carefully over Sels to score his first Coventry goal, and the club’s first in the top flight in a quarter of a century.

Lampard’s men, for the first time in the league this season, had an edge to protect, something Bobby Thomas helped preserve when he athletically cleared off the line to prevent a certain goal after Igor Jesus had cut the ball over Rushworth.

With the atmosphere in the stands intensifying as the clock ticked down to 85 minutes, the hosts thought they had equalized when Jesus pounced after Coventry’s Caleb Yirenkyi tripped in his own box.

However, the VAR ruled that Jesus had stepped on the midfielder’s heel and the goal was ruled out, to the delight of the traveling supporters.

Forest didn’t create any notable chances after that as Coventry held on for a memorable result and, crucially, a historic three points.
