The NFL is back… a day early! The 2026-27 regular season begins Wednesday evening when the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks host the Patriots.
The NFL traditionally kicks off the season on a Thursday, but this year’s addition of the game in Australia has ruled that out. The 49ers and Rams meet in Melbourne on Thursday (Friday in Melbourne), and this traditional start to the Super Bowl championship has been upped by a day.
There are many favorites and usual suspects that we expect to be good and bad. However, we still have many questions to be answered. That doesn’t stop me from making weekly picks even this early, but it might take a few weeks to get on track.
And so, I’m back with my weekly picks. I prefer straight games with winners and losers, but I also offer a level of confidence. I pick the winner of each game and rank the picks based on their confidence level – high, medium, low and no. A game with three asterisks (***) indicates a game in which I will select the bet to win. Whether you should assign confidence points or not, this will help you know where I stand with the polls. And within each group, I ordered them by confidence level.
Normally, these polls are released every Thursday morning. It’s Wednesday for this week because of the previous Patriots-Seahawks game. Next week, however, we will return to our Thursday schedule.
As always to be clear, I’m a 49ers fan, so you have to take that pick every week with a grain of salt.
