Myles Garrett admitted that he produced “the worst version of myself that I’ve ever put out there” during the Los Angeles Rams Defeat 27-7 against the San Francisco 49ersrevealing that he wasn’t quite fit for the game.
Garrett missed most of training camp while dealing with swelling in his knee, though Rams coach Sean McVay said before the game that he believed the star defensive end was 100 percent healthy.
The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year declined to reveal which knee was injured, but he had been wearing a sleeve on his left leg for several practices.
Garrett struggled to make his usual impact against the 49ers, failing to record a tackle for the first time since Week 11 of the 2024 season and just the fourth time in his career.
He also managed just three individual pressures as the Rams pressured Brock Purdy on seven of his 36 dropbacks, a 19% pressure rate that was the third-lowest mark since the start of last season.
“I’ve got to be better,” Garrett said. “I have to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I’ve shown that I’ve been before.
“When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and it showed,” he added. “It wasn’t what I needed for my team.”
Garrett joined the Rams this offseason after being traded from the Cleveland Browns, having set the NFL’s single-season receiving record during the previous campaign.
Despite his struggles in Melbourne, 49ers left tackle Trent Williams said he couldn’t tell Garrett was carrying an injury.
“I mean, he’s one of those players where, you know, no matter what’s going on, it’s still not an easy out for anybody,” Williams said.
