New York Notes: Drummond, McBride, Diawara, Nets’ Development

The Nix Karl-Anthony Towns can be unhappy about not getting an extension during training camp, but he’s excited about his new backup. Towns has plenty of good things to say about the veteran big man Andre Drummond.

“He’s awesome, he’s awesome” Horadkov said, trans Christian Winfield of the New York Daily News. “One of the best rebounders of our generation in my opinion, to be able to have him on our team and to be able to expand on what he could do that people didn’t see. It’s a testament to his confidence in us and a testament to the coaching staff seeing what he can be.”

Drummond signed one-year contract this offseason after a stint in Philadelphia.

Here’s more about New York clubs:

  • When studying the biggest questions around Nix this season Stefan Bondi of the New York Post predicts that Miles McBride will be traded at some point before the end of February. Bondi notes that negotiations over his extension have not gained traction, making it more likely that his expiring contract will be moved.
  • The Nix signed a four-year deal Mohammed Diawara this offseason, including two fully guaranteed years. Now they want to see Diawara show that he is worthy of affection, Peter Sblendorio of the New York Daily News writes. “He’s one of those players who needs to step up.” coach Mike Brown said, adding that “everything has to go up, especially his rebounding.” However, Diawara may have to wait for opportunities with veteran options ahead of him in the rotation.
  • How much further to do Networks need to go to go from rebuilding mode to playoff contender? That’s the biggest question hanging over the franchise this season, Brian Lewis of the New York Post expresses an opinion. It depends a lot on how quickly the lottery picks are consecutive Yehor Shkoda and Mikel Brown Jr develop in the backcourt along with the rest of the recent recruits. Another important element is how much Michael Porter Jr and Julius Randle could boost the Nets’ floor before one or both are traded. In a a separate previous articleLewis predicts at least one will be dealt before the February deadline, with Porter likely to be sent elsewhere.
