The merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery will close on October 6. Diversity, the official name will be Skydance, the name of David Ellison’s original film production company, Skydance Media.
Alison will serve as president and CEO of Skydance. Former Mattel CEO Yon Kreis will join the company on Oct. 5 as co-CEO. Alison took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to officially announce the Skydance name.
In a lengthy post, Alison wrote: “Paramount and Warner Bros. have shaped more than a century of culture. By bringing them together, we’re not rewriting history, we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together we are Skydance.
“We chose this name for several important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what makes each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. unified the company’s identity while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros., and all of our extraordinary brands, to remain in focus,” Ellison explained.

The merger faced several major obstacles, including a lawsuit by several states to bar Paramount from Warner Bros. On September 21, Paramount was reported to have settled with those states.
It’s unclear how the merger will affect AEW. However, Tony Khan maintained a positive outlook, citing his relationship with Ellison and working with him through the NFL. He recently talked about it while going live on X.
