Rams defensive end Myles Garret and defensive tackle Aaron Donald will finally be on the field together Sunday in Washington, and Garrett says that will be bad news for opposing offenses for the rest of the season.
Donald didn’t play in Week 1 because he was still growing for the season after returning from his two-year layoff, and Garret hasn’t played since Week 1 because of knee surgery. Garrett said the two together, two back-to-back multiple Defensive Player of the Year winners, will present a unique challenge to opposing offenses.
“I think offenses have to pick their poison. Who’s going to get off this game? I think each of us is pretty good at winning one-on-ones, so we’re going to have fun,” Garrett said. “Coming into this season, I never thought I’d get the chance, and as you all know, he’s held us up for a long time, so it’s been really exciting, and I’m looking forward to getting on the field and playing some real snaps with him.”
Garrett said his poor performance in Week 1 against the 49ers told him he needed knee surgery, something he would have preferred to avoid.
“I was frustrated after the game. I knew it wasn’t me and I was tripping over something,” Garrett said. “I didn’t want to waste any time, but I had to be realistic about where I was physically and I had to make the best choice for me and the team.”
But now Garrett is back, and he said he and Donald playing together could give the Rams an “elite defense” for the rest of the season.
