Ex England and Lions stubborn Kyle Sinckler will close the door on a potential return to Gallagher PREM after agreeing a contract extension with Toulon two more years.
Sinclair, 33, entered the final year of his contract in July and has been regularly linked with a return home to Harlequins, where he has made over 130 appearances, as well as Newcastle Red Bulls and Exeter Chiefs.
The Red Bulls have the financial power despite Elliot Millar Mills and James Harper being on long-term contracts, while Bosses Josh Iosefa-Scott is in the final 12 months of his contract and Sinckler has been linked as a potential replacement.
He is in his third season with Les Rouges et Noir and has helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions Cup and Top 14 in his first two campaigns at the Stade Mayol.
Sinclair has played 68 times for England, including two World Cups, but will not be able to select Steve Borthwick after opting to stay on the Cote d’Azur until 2029.
He started both of Toulon’s first two games of the season, defeats against them Bayonne both La Rochelle and Toulon are keen on him, Régis Montagne and Owen Sorhaindo as their solid options for at least the next few seasons.
Sinclair, shortly after arriving at Toulon, told L’Equipe that he had rediscovered his love for the game, especially the way they are fighting in the Top 14.
“In France, there is more pressure in the links. I have to adapt to that. Here, the spirit of the scrum is very different. From the commands “flexion”, “liez” and “jouer”.
“If I switch early, too hard, I risk reaching the end of the run at the moment of the kick, stripped of power. I’m still in the adjustment phase. In Toulon, the scrum is a story of life and death. It’s exciting.”
“In England we’re more analytical. Here, the scrum, we put emotion into it. It’s a whole city and region that vibrates. In Toulon you feel like a gladiator. I love it!” he said.
