Minor Transactions: Pelicans, Cavaliers, Warriors

The Pelicans signed and then waived the former Santa Clara big man Johnny O’Neill, tweets Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

It’s a familiar series of trades for the Pelicans, who also signed and waived O’Neal last September to claim his G-League rights and guarantee that he will receive a $50K bonus for spending at least 60 days with their NBAGL affiliate.

The Laketown Squadron control O’Neill’s return rights for the 2026/27 season and it appears plans are underway to bring him back to the club. His Agreement 10 will make him eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000 on top of his G League base salary.

In the 2025/2026 season, O’Neal played 45 games for New Orleans NBAGL, averaging 9.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 blocks in 25.4 minutes per game on .406/.367/.688 shooting.

Here’s some more minor transaction news from around the NBA:

  • The Cavaliers the security guard signed Sean McNeil to a non-guaranteed contract for training camp, according to Paul Garcia of Spot Up Shot (Link to Twitter). McNeil, who was undrafted out of West Virginia, has played for the G League’s Cleveland Charge in each of the past two seasons and plans to return to the Cavs affiliate this fall after being waived by the NBA club. The 28-year-old sharpshooter shot 42.5 percent from 4.7 three-pointers per game in 44 outings for the Charge last season.
  • The Warriors also made a pair of signings with an eye toward filling out their G League roster, officially adding guards Chance McMillian and Davon Smith on attachment 10 contracts, Garcia tweeted. Both McMillian and Smith were members of the Santa Cruz Warriors last season and will be eligible for Exhibit 10 bonuses if they return to the team for at least 60 days. McMillian averaged 16.6 points and 5.0 assists per game in 31 games for the Warriors affiliate, while Smith posted 17.2 ppg on .450/.393/.743 shooting in nine games.
