For years, Nick Aldis dreamed of wrestling in the WWE ring. At SummerSlam 2026, he finally made it happen when he picked up “Ring General” Gunther in front of an electric crowd in Minneapolis that included his son and wife Mickie James.
during an interview with “Wrestling Life Online” James recounted the magical moment she saw her husband, a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, finally make his mark in the WWE squared circle. “It meant a lot to me, it obviously meant so much to Nick and it meant an incredible amount to Donovan,” James said. “Obviously, that weekend and that moment alone, everything was leading up to that moment. It was watching this dream come true for a young Nick Aldis who dreamed of stepping into a WWE ring for the first time, and for it to happen now, it’s never too late. You just never know how things are going to turn out.
“I couldn’t think of a more fairytale moment for that to happen for him,” she continued. “But even leading up to that, when Nick was working out to get ready for it, Donovan would go to the gym with him and record all his workouts side by side and all this stuff. It was a real father-son bond… It was so overwhelming and emotional.”
When James competes in wrestling, he usually competes by himself. On this occasion, however, he saw the action from the other side of the barricade, something he described as a unique and special experience, made even sweeter by his son sitting right next to him.
Aldis eventually overcame Gunther’s sleeper at SummerSlam, meaning his WWE in-ring record now stands at 0-1. However, his efforts managed to impress fans, pundits, and backstage officials.
