October 11: Mexico remains first in the latest Concacaf men’s national team rankings after the September-October window, even after losing to the United States.
Mexico has 2,097 points, ahead of the USA with 1,877. Canada (1,821), Panama (1,655) and Costa Rica (1,534) round out the top five unchanged.
The Concacaf Ranking Index awards points for results in the Nations League, Gold Cup, World Cup qualification and other internationals, and is built over time. A loss closes the gap, as it did here, but Mexico’s record throughout the period is strong enough to keep them ahead.
Panama remains the top-ranked Central American team after the friendlies ahead of the Nations League quarter-finals. Costa Rica and Honduras (1,464) are next, both with guaranteed places in the 2027 Gold Cup qualifiers through the Nations League A. Guatemala (1,446) is fourth in the region after reaching the quarter-finals of League A, and El Salvador (1,145) fifth after earning a place in the play-ins of League A and C.
Jamaica (1,530) leads the Caribbean after booking a place in the quarter-finals of League A. Haiti (1,516) and Curaçao (1,398) are next, both also through to the quarter-finals. Suriname (1,328), heading into the Gold Cup preliminaries, and Trinidad and Tobago (1,200), into the A and C League play-ins, round out the Caribbean’s top five.
Barbados were top of the list, climbing seven places to 28th after going unbeaten with three wins and a draw to top Group B and reach the Nations League B Championship.
The upset of the window belonged to Curaçao, who trailed Costa Rica 3-0 at half-time in Nations League A before winning 4-3.
