The Mavericks made a couple of cuts, announcing in a press release that security guards Seth Lundy and John Pullakidas were canceled. Lundy was on non-guaranteed Exhibition 10 contract, and Pulakidas completed one of Dallas’ three two-way trades.
Lundy, the 46th pick in the 2023 draft, was on two-way contracts with the Hawks and Clippers for most of his first two NBA seasons, but played in just nine regular-season games during that time as he struggled with a left ankle. He averaged 5.5 points in 11.7 minutes per game while appearing in all four of Dallas’ preseason games this month, and it looks like he’ll end up with the Texas Legends, the Mavs’ G-League affiliate.
Poulakidas signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Mavs back in March and has played in 13 games all-time, averaging 8.8 ppg and 2.3 ppg on 19.5 mpg while making 40.3% of his 3-point attempts. He was also solid during the preseason, scoring 21 points in 41 minutes in three games while making 5 of 11 threes, but the club decided to go in a different direction with this two-way slot.
Although the Mavs currently have 18 players under contract, they are not yet in compliance with NBA roster rules as they have 16 on standard contracts and only a couple on two-way contracts.
They have yet to decide whether to keep it or not Dwight Powellwhose minimum-salary contract is only partially guaranteed at $1 million. If Powell is retained, a player with a fully guaranteed salary would need to be traded or waived on or before Monday.
