In a recent interview Daniel CormierKape said he would have a speed advantage against Van. He predicted that their match would be similar Anderson Silvaover a first round knockout win Forrest Griffin at UFC 101.
“I know the strength that I have, I know the skills that I have,” Kape said. “When I say this fight is going to be too easy, it’s going to be too easy. He’s going to be very slow. The way he’s throwing punches is slow to me. This fight is like Anderson Silva against Forrest Griffin. I’m sorry: I love Forrest Griffin, but it’s going to be like this. I really see this being the fight. I’m going to be there.”
Cape also predicted that his last opponent Kyoji Horiguchiwhom he defeated by third-round TKO, Van would finish.
“I just beat the toughest fighter in our division,” added Kape. “Kyoji is there again. This guy is a different animal. You have to be very, very smart to fight this guy. You have to have knowledge. You have to have a strategy to beat a karate guy like him. If it was Van against Kyoji, Kyoji would put him to sleep in the first round. That’s the way I see it. I know the levels of this game.”
