Liverpool they face an attacking crisis after Cody Gakpo joined Alexander Isak in returning to Merseyside from international duty through injury.
Dutch winger Gakpo was heavily tackled by Serbian midfielder Sasa Lukic in the 12th minute of the match in Belgrade last night and hobbled off shortly afterwards to receive further treatment on his left ankle.
He underwent scans this morning after which it was decided that he would not be able to take part in the Dutch’s remaining matches in this window, against Greece and Serbia..
Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday 11 October when they host Manchester City at Anfield.
Coach Andoni Iraola will be hoping Gakpo is fit after seeing Isak suffer a minor injury while away with Sweden.
Liverpool star Isak has a thigh problem
Isak played all 90 minutes of the Swedes’ 2-1 win against Romania on Friday, scoring the opener, but it was later revealed he had picked up a thigh problem.
Sweden boss Graham Potter said: “He’s got a bit of a problem with his thigh. It’s not a big one, but because of the number of games we’ve got in a small space of time, he won’t be able to do them.
“It’s not big, but it’s frustrating for him and obviously for us.”
Isak endured a miserable first season at Liverpool following his big move from Newcastle, but has started the new campaign well, scoring four goals in five Premier League games.
