Preview of Liverpool-Brighton
Brighton arrive at Anfield sitting above Liverpool in the table. Fabian Hürzeler’s side are third in the Premier League, four points behind Andoni Iraola’s fifth-placed Reds, and will have chances to add to Liverpool’s frustrations at home.
Liverpool’s league form at Anfield has been a real problem. They are yet to win a Premier League home game this season, and failure on Sunday would see them play their first four home league games of a winless campaign.
The good news for Iraola is that his team is gaining momentum. After losing 3-0 at home to Manchester City, they have won three in a row, beating LASK 6-3, coming from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 and then overcoming a thrilling 4-3 win over Villarreal at Anfield on Tuesday. Liverpool have avoided defeat in 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions.
Villarreal’s game exposed some defensive issues, however, and Iraola knows his side will need to be much tighter against Brighton.
Brighton has been one of the stories of the season. They beat champions Arsenal 3-0 at the Amex, beat Crystal Palace 5-0 last weekend and have won five, drawn one and lost one of their seven league games. They have scored 23 goals, the most in the division, and conceded just five.
His six game winning streak ended midweek, but only just. Hürzeler rested eight players for the Conference League trip to Jablonec, and Brighton dominated the match with 26 shots but were held to a 0-0 draw.
Iraola has been full of praise for the seagulls. “They’re doing incredibly well and they deserve all the praise they’re getting,” he said. “They are well trained, very good in all phases, one of the best teams with good quality. We will have to be at our best. I see my team in a good place.”

Liverpool-Brighton team news
Dominik Szoboszlai, Víctor Muñoz and Jeremie Frimpong are all out for Liverpool. Szoboszlai is training individually but is yet to return to full team training, with Iraola saying “more patience is needed with him”.
There is better news on Bradley Barcola, who Iraola confirmed is fully fit. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Rio Ngumoha are available.
For Brighton, Kaoru Mitoma, Evan Ferguson, Stefanos Tzimas and Femi Azeez remain on the sidelines. Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer could be involved.
Brighton are not suspended, and Hürzeler is expected to bring back the players he rested on Thursday.

Liverpool-Brighton recent form and statistics
- Brighton are one of eight teams to have scored 23 goals in the first seven Premier League games of a season, and the first since Manchester City in 2022-23 (23).
- Liverpool’s much-maligned midfielder Florian Wirtz has created the most chances in both overall (20) and open play (18) in the Premier League this season.
- Brighton have won two of their last three Premier League meetings with Liverpool, as many as they won their first 15 meetings with them.
- Liverpool have lost just one of their last 13 home games against Brighton in all competitions, winning each of their last four at Anfield.
Prediction Liverpool-Brighton
Brighton don’t fear anyone in the Premier League at the moment, especially after dismantling Arsenal. Liverpool at Anfield is always a challenge though and we think the home side will overshadow them.
