Sergio Garcia is returning to the DP World Tour for the 2027 season and is open to reclaiming a spot on the PGA Tour as well.
The 46-year-old Spaniard revealed his future plans in a statement on his social media accounts on Thursday. His departure from LIV Golf was already well known after four years playing on the breakaway circuit.
“Next season, I will be playing on the DP World Tour,” Garcia wrote. “This tournament has been a big part of my career since the beginning, and I’m proud to call it home again.
“I’m keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour. And perhaps the most exciting part for me is strengthening my personal relationships, new and old.”
Garcia, who said he was “putting a big focus on a strong mindset and my mental health”, also expressed his ambition to secure a place in Luke Donald Ryder’s European Cup team for the 2027 tournament at Adare Manor.
The Spaniard is Team Europe’s all-time leading scorer in the Ryder Cup with 28.5 points from 10 appearances, with his last appearance at Whistling Straits in 2021.
Garcia’s statement referred to an incident at this year’s Masters in which he broke his driver on the second hole at Augusta National after an explosion on the tee. He was later given a code of conduct warning – the first of the tournament.
“I can’t wait to get back to The Masters,” added Garcia, who won the green jacket in 2017. “I left Augusta (in 2026) disappointed with myself and my actions and I’m ready to show what I’ve learned and where I’m at mentally.
“Augusta has given me some of the best moments of my life and I would love nothing more than to pursue another green jacket in such a special place.”
The Spaniard was one of the most high-profile players to join LIV Golf in 2022.
His last start on the PGA Tour, outside of the majors, came at the Wells Fargo Championship that year. During that tournament, Garcia hit an errant putt into a patch of long grass and was heard to vent, “I can’t wait to get out of this tournament,” as he searched for his ball.
Garcia, who has 11 career PGA Tour wins, will have to wait until August 2027 before he can return, due to the US circuit’s 12-month suspension at LIV Golfers.
The county is emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with BC Partners Credit and its $300 million pledge and without the Saudi money. Garcia had already sought — and been granted — approval to leave LIV.
Jon Rahm, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton are among them other high profile players to announce their exits from LIV.
