Graeme McDowell has confirmed he will follow in the footsteps of Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter, among others, in becoming the latest player to leave LIV Golf.
The 2010 US Open champion revealed the news in a social media post on Monday, but the 47-year-old did not elaborate on his future plans.
“I have decided not to attend LIV 2.0,” the Northern Irishwoman wrote on X.
“I am grateful for the opportunity I have had over the past four years and I want to thank everyone who has been a part of that journey.
“I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my career.”
LIV Golf is currently planning its future after its former backer, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced in April that it would end funding the breakaway league at the end of the 2026 season.
The league remained in search of new investment, but secured financing from BC Partners Credit before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and citing its intentions to reopen again in 2027 in a new league, called LIV 2.0.
The move has some LIV players pondering their futures on the tour, with two-time major winner Rahm reaching a severance agreement in October to leave because of the ‘unacceptable terms’ proposed for LIV 2.0.
His compatriot Sergio Garcia has also had his contract terminated, while Hatton announced on social media on Friday that he too “would not be part of LIV 2.0”.
BC Partners had set an Oct. 25 deadline for players to commit to the league going forward, with a handful of players announcing they would re-sign.
McDowell, who was part of LIV Golf’s OKGC team, joined the breakaway league in 2022.
His last start in a DP World Tour event outside of the majors came at the 2022 BMW PGA Championship.
