Veteran NBA guard Lindy Waters III heads abroad for the 2026/27 season, signing a contract with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association (Link to Instagram).
Waters, 29, went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2020 and will make his NBA debut in 2022 with the Thunder. The 6-foot-5 guard has appeared in the league in each of the last five seasons, playing in 196 regular-season games with Oklahoma City, Golden State, Detroit and San Antonio over that span and averaging 4.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per night.
Waters signed a one-year, minimum wage contract with the Spurs last July and has appeared in 40 regular season contests and nine playoff games as a substitute during the 2025/26 season. However, he logged just 7.1 minutes per game, the lowest of his NBA career.
Waters became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 when his contract with the Spurs expired.
The Ducks finish the season 29-13 in 25/26, good for fourth in the 20-team CBA. Beijing were eliminated in the semi-finals of the playoffs by the eventual champion Shanghai Sharks, so Waters will be looking to help the team go over the top and win their first title since 2015 next season.
