Knicks Notes: McBride, M. Brown, Wiseman, Drummond

Miles McBride was one of the four Nix players affected by the team’s decision negotiations on expanding the table until the end of the season. Agent McBride Mark Bartelstein recently said that the 26-year-old guard is ready to return to these conversations in the future, writes Jared Schwartz of The New York Post.

“No doubt he would like to get (an extension)” Bartelstein said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “But at the end of the day, you work for the Knicks, and it takes two sides to make a deal. And if the Knicks aren’t ready to expand right now, we just have to buckle down and have a great season.

“He will be a free agent this summer, but we’ll see. We have a great relationship with (the president) Leon (Rose) and front office. Let’s see – there may be opportunities in the season, maybe in the near future. Who knows where we will be able to have these conversations.”

McBride will make $3.96 million this season until he is out in 2027. Bartelstein noted that his client was playing through a core muscle injury he sustained surgical intervention to deal with sports hernia in February – during the New York championships in the spring.

“We talked to Nicks throughout the summer” Bartelstein said, according to Schwartz. “Miles, like any player at his position, would love to get an extension. I think he deserved it. He’s been a huge part of where this organization has gone over the last three or four years. He was their sixth man.

“A lot of people don’t realize how hurt he played last year in the playoffs. He underwent abdominal surgery, which caused him to miss a couple of months. He came back and still wasn’t right, but he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be around his teammates.”

Here’s more on the Knicks:

  • Nix refused a veteran of the Guard Bruce Brown on Saturday, but remained central James Wiseman as the 14th player in their standard squad. Head coach Mike Brown has been active in supporting Wiseman, who has battled multiple injuries since being selected second overall in the 2020 draft. “He’s young, he’s talented, he’s raw, yetsaid Mike Brown (story via Schwartz). “I think he’s still trying to establish himself in this league. But with the God-given attributes that he has in terms of athleticism, length and speed, (it) could bode well for him on both ends of the floor. And at 25, he hasn’t even hit his prime yet, especially knowing he hasn’t played basketball.”
  • James L. Edwards III of The Athletic (free link) takes a detailed look at Coach Brown, who is “unforgiving of himself” — for the good of the team. “I feel he is always real”, star guard Jalen Brunson said. “He really doesn’t care what people say or think about him. He’s just different. He is his own person. I think you always get the real Mike Brown. There are times when he has to be stern to get his point across and there are times when he’s just having a good time showing his emotions in positive and negative ways – he’s always himself.”
  • While a free agent addition Andre Drummond better known for his rebounding, the veteran center believes the Knicks could use his passing and shooting abilities, Christian Winfield of The New York Daily News. “I like to pass, I like to see the floor and I play well in the pocketDrummond told The News.… The game changes, (my) guards like to score and I throw the pocket pass.”
