Knicks Notes: Brown, Wiseman, Brunson, Towns, Hart

The Nix on Thursday afternoon refused great people Drew Eubanks and Tony Bradley as well as the wing Broken black. The only two players left under contract in Exhibit 9 training camps Bruce Brown and James Wisemanand they can compete for one roster spot, barring a trade.

Head coach Mike Brown called veteran guard Bruce Brown “a winner everywhere he’s been” before Thursday’s preseason game tweets James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, and noted that Wiseman is a talented center who still has room to grow at age 25.

Wiseman is considered the favorite for the 14th spot on the roster because the Knicks are said to prefer a third center back Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond.

Here’s more on the Knicks:

  • NBA general managers voted for the star guard Jalen Brunson — the reigning Finals MVP — as the league’s best leader (with 53% of the vote) in John Shuman’s lineup annual GM survey for NBA.com. Coach Brown said he was not surprised by the results Christian Winfield of The New York Daily News. “He studies the game and that helps a lot because you can always improve in whatever area you’re in. But he is having a conversation” Brown said Thursday. He works very hard and he strives for perfection from himself. And when you do that, your peers see that you’re doing that and you’re seen as the best player on the team, and that gives you the confidence to tell someone else when they’re not giving their best or when they need to do this a little bit better or that a little bit better.”
  • Stefan Bondi of The New York Post (subscriber link) recently spoke with three competing executives and two “high-powered agents” to get a better understanding of how Towns is valued around the league and how his contract situation could ultimately pan out. The six-time All-Star publicly admitted that he disappointed he has yet to sign an extension and said that “very disappointed“, which the team released a statement saying he was delaying negotiations until the end of the season. Towns suggested he would be willing to take less than his max ($276 million over four years) on a new deal, while the Knicks are said to be offering around $200 million over four years. Most people Bondi talked to thought Towns would make $40-50 million annually when he hits free agency next summer (he has a $61 million player option for 2027/28), though one East executive suggested New York’s offer to the former No. 1 overall pick was low. “He is worth more to them than they offered him” – said the head of Bondi.
  • Starting wing Josh Hart According to Newsday’s Steve Popper (Twitter references). Fast forward to the second year Mohammed Diawara got the starting nod with Hart on the sidelines.
