After scoring a touchdown Thursday night, Packers running back Josh Jacobs put his hands behind his back, which many observers interpreted as mimicking him in handcuffs. Which would be in bad taste, given that Jacobs is playing just his second game of the season after being placed on paid leave after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge filed by his girlfriend.
Jacobs denied that was what he was doing.
Jacobs said the broadcast of Thursday night’s game did not show his full celebration, which he and teammate Savion Williams planned, and which was inspired by a gospel song.
“They didn’t even get the whole party,” Jacobs said. “Shit, that was a heck of a second they just showed me.” But anyway, Savion and I went out with the party, if they had seen the whole party. Basically, last week, we said the first party, when I score, I’m going to thank God, that’s what I did last week. The second would be ‘Break Every Chain’. It’s a gospel song. This would be the next party. It’s a correlation. The media will run with it. They will make it something it was not. But it is what it is.”
Although Jacobs’ paid leave is over, he remains subject to a possible unpaid suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
