Jose Aldo says he’d cut 20-0 Movsar Evloev after first UFC loss

Evloev (20-0) challenges Alexander Volkanovsky (28-4) to the featherweight title at
UFC 333 On October 24 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Aldo said he wouldn’t have given Evloev a title shot.

Jose Aldo calls Movsar Evloev’s UFC fights boring ahead of Aleksandr Volkanovski’s title shot

Despite his perfect record, Evloev has drawn criticism for going the distance in each of his 10 UFC appearances. Aldo said he would wait for the Russian’s first loss before releasing him. Hall of Famers view the UFC as an entertainment business in which winning alone does not guarantee opportunities or stardom.

“The UFC is not just an organization that just has to follow a ranking system. It’s a business, it’s entertainment,” Aldo told MMA Fighting. “It’s not that I’m number one so I have to fight for the title.” No. Evloev is #1 in the division if I’m not mistaken, and if I were president I would never put him there. He could beat everyone. I would wait until he loses the first time and then cut him because he’s a guy who doesn’t sell, a guy who fights boring fights, a guy who doesn’t attract attention; he just remains passive.”

The former featherweight champion pointed Jean Silva
and Alex Pereira as examples of fighters whose aggressive styles appeal to fans despite their losses in the Octagon.

“Why should I give him that chance? I want to sell out my arena, I want my event to grow, there’s a lot at stake,” Aldo added. “Jean Silva may lose three fights, but he’s a guy who steps up, a guy who puts on a show. That’s what the fans want to see. ‘Poatan’ was almost 35 years old when he joined the UFC and he’s still growing… There are so many things you have to consider… It’s not just a matter of, ‘P*ck, I beat everybody.’
