As early as July 2022, A heated feud ensued between AEW President Tony Khan and former ROH talent Jonathan Gresham. Gresham, was the ROH World Champion at the time upset that he was instructed to drop his championship to Claudio Castagnoli, among other things, just minutes before the curtain went down on Death Before Dishonor. After doing what was asked of him, Gresham asked to be released from ROH, which Khan granted. However, the two have not spoken to each other, despite Gresham’s many attempts. While things look bleak at the moment, the former champion is hopeful that one day he and Khan can work things out and that he can return to his old stomping grounds in ROH.
“I’ll never say never, but I’ve reached out a few times to apologize in person when they come here to Atlanta … I’m just going to say no, that’s the answer I got. And fair enough,” said the former ROH and World Champion. “Grapsody Podcast”. “The way I left, I probably wouldn’t want to talk to me either. But then again, I think we also have to look at why he left. I just didn’t make it to the show and left. “You know what, mom?” It didn’t happen that way. There was a reason: the build-up, the frustration. And, to be honest, to this day, I still don’t agree with how I acted, but I think I had good reason to be sad.”
Coming back from two major setbacks, “The Octopus” is not only back in the ring fighting, but he is training and scouting the next recruits through PRODUCE Wrestling. Earlier this month, he was named chairman of the talent advisory board for the promotion. While cementing his footprint in the industry, he is also launching his own promotion, MAG (Modern Age Grappling), which will premiere on January 9, 2027.
