PHILADELPHIA – Jonathan Grinard returned to practice Wednesday for the Philadelphia Eagles after missing all of training camp with an injury. The Eagles will release Grinard’s official status after practice, but his return leaves open the possibility that the franchise’s top offseason acquisition could be back for Week 1 against the Washington Chiefs.
Grinard, 29, was Acquired in a draft-Saturday trade with the Minnesota Vikings And he signed a lucrative contract extension in Philadelphia that kept him on a four-year, $100-million contract with $50 million guaranteed. Jaylan Phillips is expected to top the Eagles’ edge-rusher depth chart after leaving in free agency. Grinard injured his pectoral lift before training camp. Although defensive coordinator Vic Fangio wasn’t sure Grinard would return for the start of the season, the team downplayed the injury in the first place.

“He did it,” coach Nick Sirianni said before Wednesday’s practice. We’ll see where he is at the end of the week.
Grinard, a 2024 Pro Bowler, has reached 12 sacks in two of the last three seasons. He will participate in pad and drills in the practice room, which is open to the press. If he makes progress this week and returns in time to play the Chiefs, Jalix will join a rotation that includes Hunt and Nolan Smith. All three are listed as co-starters on the team’s unofficial depth chart.
