A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with 60 mixed martial arts fights on his resume, many of which date back to the expiration, Flavio “Legendary” Alvaro is primarily responsible for this
Fighting nerds‘ earth and drilling works.
Thanks to his MMA experience, Alvaro is also highly respected for the mental preparation he provides in the corner, an aspect of his coaching that is known internally as the “dark side” of Fighting Nerds.
“Pablo (Sucupira) and I complement each other even in that. Between rounds, while he brings fight analysis and enforces our tactical game plan, I keep our warrior mentally armed,” Alvaro told Sherdog on Tuesday.
Fighting Nerds trainer Flavio Alvaro explains how Jean Silva perfected the choke used on Jose Delgado
Like Jean Silva showed in a video posted to Instagram on Sunday that the statement he used against Delgado on Saturday was taught by Alvaro, which has led to it being dubbed the “legendary choke.” “The video Jean posted shows how we train, including the sequence he used on Saturday. In fact, he had already tried to implement it. Bryce Mitchellbut the chin adjustment was missing and this is the big secret of the Legendary Choke. The chin acts as a second arm to allow for adjustment. Jean fixed the position in training and now it clicked,” said Alvaro.
In Alvaro’s opinion, Silva’s seventh win in eight UFC bouts — six of them by knockout or submission — should be enough to give the Fighting Nerds a title shot. However, a former Bellator contender Aaron Pico
can potentially align.
“Considering everything he’s done – seven wins, six finishes – and the entertainment he’s provided, Jean should fight the winner of Evloev vs. Volkanovski,” Alvaro said. “But we have to understand that Aaron Pico is loved in the US even though he is only 1-1 in the promotion.
“We have to understand that the UFC is an American show and they’ve had a chance to be the champion for a long time, so it could be that if Pico beats Allen, Jean will still have to fight him for a title shot. But honestly, I don’t think he will win.
Arnold Allen.”
Alvaro also made it clear which potential champion he would prefer against Silva.
“For sure we want Volkanovski, who is a legend in this sport,” Alvaro said. “And that would give Jean a lot more than a win over Evloev.”
