Gloucester Boss George Skivington has confirmed Jamal Ford-Robinson’s injury hell continues after he required yet another operation, this time on a hamstring injury he picked up in training against Bristol Bears.
Ford-Robinson, 33, who operates either side of the front row, played just four games last season between two spells under the knife with knee injuries, his last game for the Cherry and Whites coming in the defeat at Newcastle Red Bulls January 2nd.
Skivington believes Ford-Robinson will be sidelined for several more months but will hold off on seeking an injury replacement unless something happens to new signing Mark Fepulea’i, who is in full training.
“It’s definitely hard enough that he’s had an operation, which is unusual and accidental for a prop. He did it in a match during the second team’s game against Bristol after we played a Prem Cup game.
“We went to the training center and took the rest of the squad out for a kick-off. Unfortunately, he did it in the match. It’s a shame because obviously we haven’t seen him on the pitch much in the last 18 months and now he’s going to miss a bit more.
“I think he’ll be out for a few months for sure, but these things always depend on the individual and how quickly they heal and how diligent you are in rehab,” he said.
Skivington says Gloucester’s medical team are still assessing the foot injury center Phil Cokanasiga suffered on his debut in the win over Exeter Chiefs last weekend.
“We’re not quite sure where we are with Phil yet. He just seemed to hurt his foot running at the end. So we’re just checking that out. We’re pretty fit and healthy and the guys are looking after them at the start of the week and they’ve been training really, really hard today,” he added.
