15 October: Internazionale Milano ran a digital out-of-home advertising campaign around Milan’s train stations and airports ahead of their first UEFA Champions League home game of the season.
The displays, featuring Nerazzurri-themed creativity, greeted supporters arriving from across Italy and abroad ahead of Tuesday’s match against Club Brugge at the San Siro.
The approach takes the club’s presence on the day far beyond the stadium. Transport hubs reach more than just match fans, including commuters, business travelers and international visitors passing through the city. For a Champions League night, when many fans arrive by train or plane, they are the first point of contact with the city.
Digital out-of-home advertising allows clubs to push campaigns into high-traffic public spaces without relying solely on stadium screens or social media. It also ties the club’s identity to the city itself, which is important for a brand trying to grow internationally while maintaining its position at home.
The European party gave Inter a concentrated window to reach foreign visitors. The campaign was part of wider communications on the day which also included a pre-match light show at San Siro.
Inter are not the first club to use transport networks in this way, but few cities offer the same combination of an international airport, a major railway hub and a stadium that hosts Champions League football.
With the future of San Siro tied to the new stadium project shared with AC Milan, campaigns that link the club’s brand to the city’s infrastructure also have a long-term logic.
