Inter Miami-FC Cincinnati preview
Inter Miami’s winning run came to a halt in New Jersey. Now Kily Gonzalez’s side need a response as they host FC Cincinnati at Nu Stadium on Wednesday night, aiming to avoid back-to-back MLS regular season defeats for the first time since 2023.
Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls ended a three-game winning streak. A Casemiro own goal left Miami behind and Emil Forsberg ended the victory for the hosts. Miami, which leads the league with 73 goals, managed just one shot on goal all night.
Lionel Messi he played just over half an hour after returning from Spain, and his streak of 14 straight games with at least one goal or assist came to an end.
The loss has made things tighter in the race for the top playoff seed. Miami is now third in the Easttied on points with second-placed New England, but behind them on goal difference, and just four points ahead of the Chicago Fire in fourth.
Cincinnati arrives in a much better mood. They won 2-0 at DC United at the weekend, their second win in a row, as they bid to climb into the top seven in the East. They are eighth with 42 points.
Kévin Denkey is their main threat, with 17 goals this season, and Evander has created 82 chances.
The recent history between the sides is mixed. Miami is undefeated in its last two home games against Cincinnati and has not conceded in either. Cincinnati, however, has picked up points in three of its last four trips to Miami.
